On a 3-to-2 vote the Sussex County Council has approved a $1.5 million loan to the Sussex Sports Center Foundation.
The money allows for a new sports complex to be constructed off Sand Hill Road in Georgetown.
The agreement requires the foundation to use its own money to match the loan.
WBOC reports that those who opposed the 56 acre project said they did not believe there had been enough public input and questioned whether it was worth the money.
But supporters on the council said they believe it was a good public-private partnership that would lead to potential economic development.
