Right To Work Ordinance Considered in Sussex County

official photo

There’s a push by Sussex County Council member Rob Arlett to impose a right to work ordinance.

The measure would not only bar mandatory union membership but also allow people to refuse to pay union dues.

But the measure has drawn strong opposition with yesterday morning’s meeting turning into standing room only.

WBOC reports that John Rodriquez with a local food and commercial workers union told the council that the measure would be detrimental to the kind of services and power offered to workers.

Arlett countered that he was not being anti-union but was trying to attract new businesses that may become unionized.

He is hoping to have some action on his ordinance before the end of the year.
