Delaware to Restrict Access of Voter Registration Data

Delaware Election Commissioner Elaine Manlove says she will be rewriting the rules for access to voter information.

The move comes after anger from Delaware voters over a request by the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election for a large amount of voter data including the last four digits of their social security numbers.

Manlove said that her office will still provide information to political parties and candidates.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the change in policy followed a flood of angry calls and emails demanding that the information be kept from the federal government.

John Flaherty, the past president of the Delaware Coalition for Open Government, told the paper that the voter registration data base should be open to everyone not just a certain few.

Delaware has joined other states who have rejected cooperation with the presidential commission’s request.
