Four Hour Barricade in Willards Ends, Suspect Wounded

A four hour barricade situation has ended in Willards ending with a round fired by the Maryland State Police wounding the suspect.

WBOC reports that police say 25 year old Alex Bartell barricaded himself in a house owned by his firlfriend's mother after reports of shots being fired.

He was treated at the R. Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Center for injuries.

Bartell's girlfriend was inside the home with her three year old son and tried to call 911.

But the call was hung up.

Bartell's girlfriend was treated at Peninsula Regionial Medical Center in Salisbury for injuries sustained in the confrontation.

He has been charged with attempted first-degree murder among other counts.

The incident began last night at 10 p.m. in the area of Poplar Neck Road.

Upon arrival of the Maryland State Police the surrounding homes were evacuated.

The incident ended around 2 a.m.
