AstraZeneca will be eliminating 700 jobs in the United States and 120 of those at their Fairfax headquarters in Delaware.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the company said the layoffs were in part to reverse the decline it has seen in U.S. revenue this year.

Governor Jack Markell issued a statement saying that his heart went out to those workers will be receiving pink slips and said the Department of Labor would begin helping them find other jobs.

The News Journal reports that the pharmaceutical company had received a major incentive package of some $40 million of grants and tax credits along with road improvements from then Governor Tom Carper to keep its headquarters in the First State.
