FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - UnitedHealthcare is looking to hire more than 100 employees at its Frederick office.

Company spokeswoman Mary McElrath-Jones tells The Frederick News-Post that the health care firm seeks to fill 120 customer service-related positions in Frederick by December.

The positions include care provider customer service representatives, customer service advocates and claims representatives.

McElrath-Jones says UnitedHealth Group, which covers more than 860,000 people in Maryland, currently employs 675 people at its Frederick office.

The company also has offices in Rockville, Elkridge and Columbia.

UnitedHealthcare is ramping up its workforce in light of a recent announcement that it will withdraw from 16 states' Affordable Care Act health insurance exchanges, including Maryland's.

McElrath-Jones says the need to add customer service positions was due to an increase in membership nationwide.
