DAGSBORO, Del. (AP) - Authorities say a mattress that flew out of a truck caused an accident that sent one person to the hospital.

Master Corporal Gary Fournier with the Delaware State Police tells WBOC-TV the incident occurred Wednesday afternoon just east of Helms Landing Road in Dagsboro. He says 63-year-old Richard Steedman was driving his pickup truck when a mattress flew out and landed on the westbound lanes.

Fournier says a vehicle swerved to avoid the mattress, but ended up side-swiping another car in the oncoming lane. The second vehicle ran off the road. The driver of the second car, 52-year-old Lisa Giorgilli, was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

Steedman was cited for escaping contents and failure to have insurance in possession.
