Celebrating an African American Baseball Team

creative commons

There’s an effort underway to get some attention for a baseball team that once played on a field near Princess Anne.

They were the African American team called the Eagles.

It’s being led by Kirkland Hall, the team historian and longtime player.

He has spent years restoring the team’s home field in Oaksville.

And, he told the Salisbury Daily Times that he is considering putting out a booklet on the history of local black teams and to creating a nonprofit to put together a hall of fame.

During opening day this past Sunday Hall told the paper that while several black players were part of the Salisbury-based Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame there should be a place for the story of black baseball players.
