ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Maryland Senate has delayed a vote on appointments that Gov. Larry Hogan has made to his cabinet in the aftermath of his State of the State speech.
The Senate decided Friday to delay the vote for a week, after some senators expressed concerns about nominations.
The delay comes two days after Hogan's speech, which angered Democrats who hold a 33-14 Senate majority.
Sen. Nathanial McFadden, a Baltimore Democrat, says Hogan emphasized that the state can do much better. McFadden says that falls not only on lawmakers, but also on those who lead various state agencies in the executive branch.
The delay affects Hogan's picks for budget secretary and health department secretary. It also affects the governor's choice for the Maryland Department of Planning and the state labor department.
