Culver Defends School Bond Cut

Don Rush

Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver has been explaining why he decided to cut $1.25 million bond from the county’s capital improvement budget.

Culver said that he made his decision after speaking with Governor Elect Larry Hogan at his swearing in ceremony.

He said that given the fiscal situation in Annapolis he had to be prudent to put the project on hold until such time as the county knows what kind of state money it would be receiving.

Still, Melva Wright, who is in her 11th year as principal of West Salisbury Elementary, told WBOC that she was disappointed.

She noted that the school has been on the renovation list for many years and should have been in a new facility by now.

Culver counters that that is not exactly true but adds his decision does not mean that the county is dropping the project.
