Cape Henlopen School Board Weighs in on Summer Reading List

book cover

The Cape Henlopen School Board has decided to get more involved in the selection of books for the district’s summer reading list.

During yesterday’s meeting one board member insisted that the new policy include educational significance in the criteria for selection.

Controversy exploded this summer over the selection of “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” by Emily Danforth about a teenager who discovers she is gay.

The book was removed from the list with board members blaming foul language while some in the community said it was because the main character was a lesbian.

The board eventually eliminated the reading list.

But, now they are reviving it because of its benefits to students.

Note: The  Cape Henlopen School Board was originally mistakenly identified as Indian River School Board.
