Navy Training Exercises in Delaware Bay This Week

U.S. Navy website

DOVER, Del. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard will be enforcing three temporary safety zones in the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean off Cape May, New Jersey starting later this week because of a Navy training exercise.

Officials say the safety zones will be enforced from Thursday to Oct. 24 as part of Frontier Sentinel, an annual training exercise that includes the Navy, Coast Guard and Canadian military forces.

Entry, passage, and anchoring in the safety zones will be restricted during the exercise. Once operations are concluded, a notice will be broadcast to mariners.

Officials say the exercise includes live mine countermeasure operations.

The pretend scenario for the exercise involves the boarding of a vessel in Canadian waters and the discovery that its crew had mined the Delaware Bay.
