SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Corrections officials say the death of an inmate is being investigated as a suicide.

The Department of Corrections say 26-year-old Blaise DeJesus of Viola was pronounced dead about 10 p.m. Tuesday at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna.

Officials say DeJesus was awaiting placement in a substance abuse program. Authorities say he was sentenced for a violation of probation on Friday.

His body was turned over to the medical examiner's officer.
