Dover Expresses Interest in Data Center Turned Down by UD

The Data Centers LLC

That data center turned down by the University of Delaware might not be so dead.

Officials in Kent County say they might be interested in the facility.

Dover’s Mayor Robin Christiansen told WBOC that Newark’s loss could be Dover’s gain.

He told the television station that his town was certainly interested in the center adding that he has a comparable site in mind.

But, he declined to say where that site might be.

The proposal in Newark came under fire from strong local opposition, especially against the natural gas-fired power plant that would have provided electricity to the facility.

Jim Waddington, the Kent County Economic Development Director, suggested that the facility could be built in central Delaware without the power plant noting that a natural gas power plant is already being built just east of Dover.
