Foreign language teacher Anna Breland has been named top teacher of the year in Somerset County.
She teaches at Crisfield Academy and High School and was favored over seven other teaching professionals.
Meanwhile, Megan Miller who teaches kindergarten at Greenwood Elementary School was named this year’s Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Breland will represent Somerset County in the Maryland teacher of the Year competition.
She told the Salisbury Daily Times that she believes teaching a foreign language is integral in exploring other cultures and traditions.
Crisfield Academy and High School Prinicpal James Conrow told the paper he believed Breland was so effective because of her of innovative strategies to get students involved.
