Not In Charge of Pledges, says Fraternity President in Student Death

family photo

The former president of a fraternity denied that he was in charge of the pledge process that led to the death of Brett Griffin.

both Jason Aaron, the former chapter president of Sigma Alpha Mu and Matthew P. Siracusa, the former pledge master also told the jury in the wrongful death suit that they never read the section of the handbook that prohibited hazing and drinking by pledges.

Aaron admitted that he had signed a document outlining his duties but said he never saw it or read it before.

both told the jury that what occurred during pledging was dictated by an unwritten tradition that they could not stop.

Griffin died of alcohol poisoning after he drank heavily at the fraternities Big Brother party in November of 2008 on the campus of the University of Delaware.
