How to preserve the rural nature of Wicomico County.
That was focus of the first day of a mediation roundtable yesterday organized by County Executive Rick Pollitt.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that until the county has a development tier map for the Maryland Department of Planning no housing subdivisions larger than seven lots can be legally built.
There have been a number of meetings by the County Council the executive and Council have not settling on a map they could send to state officials.
Some farmers have been divided over wanting to see agricultural lad be kept free from development but would like to keep property rights to decide how to use their land.
If the council and executive were to come up with a four-tiered map…around 75 percent of land would fall into the tier four category…that would prohibit subdivisions of to no more than seven homes on a septic system.
