SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Delaware's largest men's prison is getting a new warden.

The Department of Correction announced Thursday that David Pierce will take over at Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna on Sunday.

Pierce will replace Perry Phelps, who was recently appointed Bureau of Prisons chief.

The prison houses about 2,500 inmates, including those sentenced to death, and carries out all court-ordered executions.

Pierce, who joined the department in 1996, has served as deputy warden at Vaughn since 2004.
