Two Fatalities on Delmarva During Memorial Day Weekend

Don Rush

Memorial Day was quiet on Delmarva with few additional incidents reported by law enforcement.

Ocean City Police Department Patrolman 1st Class Mike Levy told the Salisbury Daily Times that it was a typical holiday weekend with a minor pedestrian accident.

But there were two fatalities and three others hospitalized in three separate incidents on Delmarva.

On Saturday 52-year old Anastasia Blavakis and 42-year-old Steven Wright were both killed when they were thrown from a car that crashed into a tree near chief road in Millsboro.

The paper reports that Delaware State Police say neither was wearing seat belts.

Early Sunday another man was struck by a Delaware State Trooper while walking northbound on Coastal Highway in Dewey Beach.

The condition of the pedestrian, Brian McDermott, has been upgraded from critical to serious.
