Teacher of the Year Honored in Delaware

John Sell, Sussex Tech

John Sell, an English teacher in the Sussex Technical School District, has been named 2013 state teacher of the year.

The winner was announced by Governor Jack Markell at the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino last night.

Sell told the gathering that it was surprised and humbled by the award.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that Sell was one of 19 finalists.

He teaches 11 and 12th grades.

Sell is known for such innovations as placing all course material on line to make sure parents and students have the information they need to succeed.

He said that getting together with his fellow teachers often allowed him to borrow ideas to provide a better learning environment.
