Pocomoke Elementary Earns Blue Ribbon

Pocomoke Elementary School has been named a Maryland Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education.

The State Department of Education submitted the school for national consideration.

And today’s announcement is based on the school’s results of Maryland State Assessments.

Last year, 97.7 percent of third-graders scored proficient or advanced on the 2012 reading test while 98.8 percent did so in math.

Principal Michael Browne told WBOC TV that students, parents and staff have been waiting for the news and crediting with the entire district working hard to prepare the children for success.

The school joins four other National Blue Ribbon Schools in Worcester County which include Ocean City, Showell and Snow Hill Elementary and Stephen Decatur Middle School.
