Delmarva Today 12-03-2021 Part two

Wilson’s guest this morning is Dr. Heather Davis. Dr. Davis is a science teacher at The Salisbury School in Salisbury, Maryland. Davis has been a research scientist and a college professor. She also has a life-long passion for literature that is now centered around helping young writers learn the art of storytelling. In that capacity she serves as the new state coordinator for Maryland Writers’ Association Teen Writing Program and is forming a teen writing program in Salisbury. From her scientific perspective as a molecular biologist, Davis talks about her interest in the relationship between reading and neural activity in the brain. She then talks about her activities with the teen writing program at the Maryland Writers’ Association and her work in forming the teen writing group in Salisbury. Davis says that, “Because young writers can often feel very isolated, the major goal of the Teen Writing Program is to give teens the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to create riveting stories while also fostering life-changing relationships with peers and adult mentors.”
