Delmarva Today 6-18-21 (Part 1) Significance of Juneteenth


Many are taking off from work today for Juneteenth. After years of effort by lawmakers and activists President Biden signed the legislation making it a federal holiday that celebrates the day that a union commander came to Galveston, Texas in 1865 to free the last slaves of the Confederacy. Host Don Rush talks with Arlisha Norwood, history professor at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore about the significance of the celebration.
