DOVER, Del. (AP) — Delaware officials have agreed to give $4.5 million in taxpayer money to online retail giant Amazon.

The Council on Development Finance voted Monday to give Amazon a strategic fund grant for its plan to establish a distribution facility on the site of a former General Motors assembly plant in Newport.

Amazon raked in $11.6 billion in profit last year.

The company says it plans to spend $50 million for new equipment and machinery, including $48.5 million in equity.

The state money includes $1.5 million for capital expenses and $3 million for Amazon's promise to create 1,000 jobs over three years.
