Mfume Emphasizes Violent Crime in Baltimore Congressional Race

BALTIMORE (AP) — Democrat Kweisi Mfume says reducing violent crime in Baltimore and its suburbs will be his top concern if voters return him to Congress.

Mfume and Republican Kimberly Klacik won special primaries Tuesday for the seat that was held by the late Elijah Cummings, who died in October.

Mfume is now the heavy favorite to win the April 28 special general election, since Democrats outnumber Republicans by more than 4 to 1 in the majority-black district.

It was Klacik's social media posts last year that prompted President Donald Trump to call the district a "rodent infested mess” where “no human being would want to live.”
