The Wicomico County Youth Safety Task Force says it has come up with a number of ideas on how to ensure the safety of students in the county’s public schools.
These range from additional training for School Resources Officers for investigating incidents and increasing the presence of the Department of Juvenile Services at the schools to greater parent engagement and accountability.
WBOCreports that other proposals include full-time hall patrol positions in secondary schools and effective education options for 18-year-old students not doing well in the traditional high school setting.
The task force is made up of members from the school district, the sheriff’s office, the state’s attorney and the department of juvenile services.
The group was formed after several reports of fights and violence in the schools.
