Recent comments by Environmental Protection Agency’s Director of the Chesapeake Bay Program about efforts to clean up the estuary has drawn concern by environmentalists.

Director Dana Aunkst told a conference this week that the 2025 goals were “aspirational” and not an enforceable deadline.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that she Chesapeake Bay Foundation President Will Baker warned that the statement was a sign that President Trump was retreating from cleaning up the Bay.

Meanwhile, Lee Currey with the Maryland Department of the Environment called on the EPA to enforce the pollution limits.

He added he expects the EPA to hold all states accountable and use all of its tools to meet the 2025 timeframe.
