Six Left in Search for New Dover Police Chief

Dover Police Department

Then there were six.

That’s how many remaining candidates in the running to become the next police chief of Dover.

The selection committee met with two men and one woman in closed door sessions for more than three hours.

WBOC reports that there are three additional interviews scheduled before making its recommendation as to who will succeed former police Chief Marvin Mailey.

The television station reports that it has learned former U.S. Marshall and Lieutenant in the department Tim Mullaney is one of those candidates.

He ran unsuccessfully for Delaware state Attorney General in the 2018 Democratic primary.

Council Review of Department

Meanwhile, the Dover City Council is reviewing more than 100 recommendations from a 2016 report to better manage the town’s police department.

Acting Police Chief Tim Stump told the council that currently there are 90 officers and personnel that are often used to fill out vacancies, injuries, absences and suspensions.

WBOC reports that the Stump said the department currently as many as 101 authorized positions.

He said that most of the recommendations by the Center for Public Safety Management have been implemented.

But Stump said that he did reject having duties like desk sergeant filled by civilians or non-sworn personnel.
