Delaware ranks fifth in the country for children affected by the opioid epidemic.

That’s according to a 2017 study by the United Hospital Fund and the Boston Consulting Group.

The Wilmington News Journalreports that 41 children out of a thousand Delaware residents were impacted by the epidemic.

The study says this includes those children who may have accidently ingested a drug.

It also includes opioid disorders in children as well as those that are affected by someone close to them that takes some form of opioid.

The News Journal reports that just last year there were a record 400 deaths from opioid overdoses which left many children behind.

And experts say they expect the numbers to grow.
