The Mayor of Salisbury Jake Day delivered his fourth State of the City address last night as he heads into next week’s municipal election.
Day emphasized a number of efforts that he said was key to the growth of the city.
Among the initiatives were a series of events that included the Salisbury Marathon and the National Folk Festival.
In addition, he pointed to projects like the Truitt Street Community Center along with the revitalization efforts in the downtown area.
He said, “The current business climate in Salisbury is the product of buy-in from the community and business owners and developers and elected local, state and federal officials. It’s only through enthusiasm, support and participation that such big accomplishments can be realized.”
He also praised the Salisbury Police Department with a seven percent decline in the crime rate last year.
One of the lowest, he added, in the city’s history.
Day is seeking a second term as Mayor and is being challenged by conservative Republican Wayne King.
