No Money to Replace Sussex Tech Facility

School District

Even though Sussex Technical School would like more students to enroll it won’t be able to do so.

The Delaware Department of Education denied a $150 million request for the construction of a new facility to replace the Sussex Tech.

WBOC reports that state officials said that the ask was too large to put into its funding budget because of factors ranging from limits on bonding and projects already in the pipeline to need for non-school projects.

Superintendent Stephen Guthrie told the television station that it would be more cost effective to replace the structure than to make repairs.

He noted that there were 270 freshmen openings last year with just over 800 applicants.
