Clay Conaway Attorney Asks for Delay in Sentencing

Clay Conaway’s defense attorney wants a delay for the sentencing on his rape conviction until after his second trial on similar charges because it could impact the jury pool.

The Wilmington News Journal reports sentencing for the former University of Delaware baseball player is set for November 22nd.

Conaway is facing up to 15 years in prison.

But his attorney argued that given a lack of criminal conviction and other “mitigating factors” he would receive a senate much closer to the minimum.

The News Journal reports that the other cases are similar in that the alleged victim met the ball player voluntarily before refusing his sexual advances.

It says that in some cases there was initial consensual contact such as kissing before Conaway violated their consent.
