SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Police in a Delaware town say human remains have been uncovered near some softball fields used by children.

The Smyrna Police Department said in a news release that the remains found near the Little Lass fields are believed to be those of a child who was less than 10 years old.

The News Journal of Wilmington reported that police tape as well as tents and tarps to protect evidence could be seen at the recovery scene on Saturday. Details of how the remains were discovered on Friday and whether a crime had occurred hadn't been released.

Police Cpl. Brian Donner says the attorney general's office, state fire marshal's office and the medical examiner's office were assisting in the investigation.
