Rehoboth Moves Ahead with Lodging Tax

creative commons

Renting in the City of Rehoboth will get a little more expensive for vacationers.

The board of commission decided to move ahead with a three percent lodging tax on hotels, motels and tourist homes with five or more rooms.

This is on top of the 8 percent state tax.

Rehoboth Mayor Paul Kuhns told WBOC that this would generate $886-thousand a year in money for the resort.

He said he expects the money would go toward things ranging from street paving to water and sewer repairs.

But the television station reports that some landlords say they believe it will hurt business.

The commissioners are set to take formal action at the next public hearing on August 16th.
