Pain Killers Flood Delaware

Around 276 million painkillers found their way into Delaware from 2006 to 2012.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that would mean an average of 286 pills for every resident of the First State.

The data was drawn from ARCOS which tracks the distribution of pain killers from manufacturer to seller.

The paper reports that the number of pills coming into the state rose from 29 million in 2006 to nearly 48 million in 2011 – a 68 percent increase.

In 2012 the number was slightly down to 41 million.

The News Journal also reports that Sussex County had the highest intake per capita at 361 pills while Kent County saw the greatest increase in the four year period from 4.5 million to 7.1 million – a jump of 57 percent.
