Wallops Marks 50th Anniversary of Moon Landing

Student Submission

Wallops Flight Facility will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing with a model rocket launch today.

The facility is doing this in conjunction with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville for what is called Global Rocket Launch.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Wallops was an important player in testing a number of early space capsule designs.

The public is invited to the Wallops visitor center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to honor the Apollo 11 mission.

Today’s event will wrap up with the launching of 30 model rockets which were constructed by the Virginia Space Flight Academy’s summer adventure camp students and counselors.
