Former Pocomoke City police chief Kelvin Sewell has been ordered to serve three years of supervised probation.
He was convicted of criminal misconduct in office after being found to have protected correctional officer and fellow Masonic lodge member Douglas Matthews in a 2012 hit-and-run accident.
WBOC reports that this was the second time Sewell has been tried for the incident.
He won an appeal of his 2016 conviction but was retried in May of this year.
Pocomoke City agreed to pay $650-thousand to settle a racial discrimination lawsuit filed by Sewell and another African American officer.
