Delaware Senate Approves Pre-K Education Bill

creative commons

Legislation approved by the Delaware state Senate would create a Universal Pre-K Consortium.

The group would develop a comprehensive plan for non-compulsory early education for 4-year-olds.

WBOC reports that Senate Education Committee Chair Laura Sturgeon said that research clearly shows those children benefit from the additional educational enrichment.

She noted that the First State ranks 38th in the nation for Pre-K.

Sturgeon adds that around half of the state’s 3 and 4 year-olds do not receive any pre-K instruction.

The state currently provide subsidies for children from low-income families for Head Start and other programs that provide such educational services.
