DOVER, Del. (AP) - A state panel is recommending probation for a Delaware charter school whose governance and finances have come under scrutiny because of board members' conduct.
The Department of Education's Charter School Accountability Committee voted Monday to recommend that Odyssey Charter School be put on probation and that it recover more than $93,000 in misappropriated funds. The CSAC will issue its final report by Friday, followed by a July 8 public hearing.
Education Secretary Susan Bunting will make a final decision regarding the school's future at a July 18 State Board of Education meeting.
State officials have expressed concerns about the influence the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association has exercised over Odyssey, a Greek-themed school in Wilmington. They also have questioned Odyssey's use of funds to start an early learning center.
