Voters in Virginia’s 6th Senate District have returned Democratic incumbent Lynwood Lewis for another term in yesterday’s legislative elections.

He fended off primary challenger Willie Randall with 70 percent of the vote or just over 45-hundred votes to nearly 19-hundred.

WBOC reports that Lewis first took office in 2014 in a special election to fill out the seat made vacant when Ralph Northam went on to win the governorship.

The district spreads out across Virginia’s Eastern Shore and includes Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

The state’s general election will take place on November 5th.
