Delaware state officials want to cut the premiums under the Affordable Care Act by 20 percent next year.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that they want to do this by providing a reinsurance program that would cover claims under Obamacare.
The program would be created under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service waiver.
In addition to getting the waiver state officials must get approval from the General Assembly.
The average monthly premium costs have risen from $336 a month in 2014 to $763 a month last year.
Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware is the only insurer in the marketplace.
In 2017 Aetna left the Delaware market with losses of $700 million on individual policies from 2014 to 2016 and another $200 million in 2017.
