OC and MD Sued Over Man Hit and Killed by Patrol Car

Obituary

The family of 57-year-old Thomas Lawlor is suing the Maryland state police, a trooper, state of Maryland and Ocean City for his death after being struck by a patrol car during Summer Cruisin’ in 2017.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Lawlor was hit by Master Trooper James Price while Lawlor was cross Coastal Highway at 76th Street.

Police say that Lawlor darted into oncoming traffic and into the direct path of Price’s patrol car.

But the suit filed in U.S. District Court claims that Lawlor had looked both ways before crossing the street to make sure there was not traffic.

In addition, it alleges that Price’s car was going at least 22 mph over the speed limit.

The suit is asking for more than $75-thousand on six counts that includes negligence and a wrongful death claim.
