$60 Million Initiative for English Learning Students in Delaware

Governor John Carney has announced a $60 million initiative that would target English learning students in Delaware.

Javier Torrijos Chair of the Delaware Hispanic Commission noted that, “English learners are growing tremendously. Since 2003 it’s grown over 400 percent. And we have over 13-thousand EL students in Delaware.” He adds, “So, it’s extremely important that they have the funding, the resources that are needed, the resources for these children.”

The state Department of Education will be working with school districts, community leaders, parents and educators over the next three years to measure the progress.

In addition, there will be $50 million dedicated to students have experienced trauma.
