DSU Students Won't Be Prosecuted for In-State Tuition Bribery Scandal

dsu

Around 100 Delaware State University students who paid bribes to get the in-state-tuition break will not be prosecuted.

At least not for now, according to federal prosecutors.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the former registrar at the university Crystal Martin pleaded guilty last week to receiving bribes of $300 to $600 to change their status.

Prosecutors believe Martin took in around $85-thousand while the defense attorneys say it was more like $50-thousand.

In all the paper reports that university officials believe the scheme cost the university around $3 million in revenue between 2013 and 2017.

Martin is set to be sentenced in July.

It is not clear whether students will be disciplined nor how the university may be compensated for its loss.
