creative commons

In her animal cruelty trial Barbara Pilchard took to the stand to defend herself yesterday.

She said that her horses had hay year round with three barns that provided good shelter for the animals.

But, she said, that officials terrorized the animals when they rode through her property on a four-wheeler in March of last year.

The Salisbury Daily Timesreports that she claimed “nobody could have done a better job.”

Earlier this week prosecutors called witnesses including from the sheriff’s office who testified about conditions they found including several dead animals and noting several other horses had to be euthanized.

Pilchard testified that she planned to move the dead bodies after the end of a freezing cold snap.
