Lt. Lorenzo Rennie Miles with the Somerset County Sheriff’s died after his lost his battle with cancer.
The announcement was made on the Sheriff’s office Facebook page which said that he died in the early morning hours on Sunday.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Miles began his career with the Crisfield Police Department.
After graduating from the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy in 1990 he moved onto the County Narcotics Task Force.
It was in 1993 that he joined the Somerset County Sheriff’s office.
He once told the Daily Times that many had come forward in the community to express their kindness and encouragement during his illness.
Upon learning of his death many agencies including the Crisfield and Fruitland police department sent their condolences to the family.
Funeral arrangements will be made in the coming days.
