Dorchester County Teachers Complain of Growing Student Violence

creative commons

Dorchester County teachers say violent student behavior is growing in the classrooms.

Last night they went before the school board to demand support in dealing with the incidents.

WBOC reports that Dorchester Education President Katie Holbrook told the board that they were being ignored in their requests for help.

Holbrook noted that one teacher was beaten so badly by a kindergarten student that she was hospitalized for three days.

Some of the teachers said that with a 2017 state decision it was difficult to discipline a second grader when the only option is suspension.

The television station reports that the Board President Glenn Bramble tried to reassure the teachers that their concerns would be taken into account.
