Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver says he plans to try to fully fund the additional $800-thousand for education as requested by Superintendent Donna Hanlin.
WBOC reports that the request is an effort to fulfill her top priorities as part of her “Imagine 2022” strategic plan.
Hanlin has had the backing of a grassroots online movement by parents known as “PUSH4Education” that includes support for universal pre-K.
Hanlin also wants funding to improve teacher turnover rates and graduation rates.
But Culver cautioned that there is only so much money to go around, especially given the $1.2 million maintenance of effort required by the state.
$57 million of the $145-million budget goes towards the county’s public school system.
