Dover Violent Crime Rate Up, 3/4 of Cases Cleared

official photo

Dover saw an uptick in violent crime last year.

That’s according to the Police Department’s annual report.

There was a 30 percent increase in crimes such as murder, rape and robberies totaling 346.

But the department said that it had cleared three quarters of them or 260.

Cpl. Mark Hoffman told WBOC the previous year – 2017 – saw an actual decline despite a series of shootings.

The report comes as the department is seeking to hire more officers.

The Police Chief Marvin Mailey told the television station that officers from specialized divisions were being reassigned to patrol the streets.
