Newark City Council Acts Against Student "Super Parties"

University of Delaware

The Newark City Council is trying to dramatically crackdown on unruly off-campus parties at the University of Delaware.

The council approved a measure that would strip away previous restrictions on authorities and allow police to issue citations to hosts of parties with as few as four people.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the law is aimed at hosts of what have been called “super parties” but some college students fear that it will be used against smaller parties.

A violation would require fine and community service.

Police said that the issue of the parties had come to their attention and would increase respect for neighbors.
